What is ACE?
Aldgate Community Events (ACE) is a group of local people and organisations. We all love Aldgate, and want to make sure that even with the massive changes taking place here we continue to be a vibrant and friendly community; embracing people of all cultures, backgrounds and abilities.
We work with our partners on fantastic, multicultural events like the Aldgate Square Festival and the Boishakhi Mela in the City, which give local people a chance to come together and celebrate.
Our annual event is the wonderful Aldgate Lantern Parade & Winter Fair. Last year, over 500 people lit up the streets of Aldgate, with beautiful, colourful lanterns they made in schools and at our workshops.
We work in partnership with many other organisations, including Bevis Marks Synagogue, the City of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Wilton’s Music Hall, the Whitechapel Gallery and a number of local businesses.
We have supported small local arts events with grants, volunteers and training.
local residents from both the Guinness Estate and the Middlesex Street Estates
people who live, work, study, worship, play and volunteer in Aldgate.
representatives from St Botolph without Aldgate Church, Sir John Cass School, The Aldgate Partnership, East End Homes, London Metropolitan University and the City of London
How can I get involved?
There are lots of ways you can get involved in our work:
Help to run our organisation. We need people to help raise funds for projects, to help keep our website up to date, to design publicity materials and do all sorts of other tasks. Whatever your skills, we need you!
Volunteer to help run one of our events. You could join a group to plan the event, help to run workshops, or volunteer to be a steward on the day. Whether you’re interested in music, crafts, drama or a single event like the Lantern Parade, we’ll make you very welcome.
